Who doesn’t love POPCORN? Especially flavored popcorn? Yum!

Employing adults with differing abilities, Popcorn for the People is a non-profit organization making a difference in the world!

For the month of September, the business I have chosen for the third See the ABLE, Not the LABEL Series is Popcorn For The People out of New Jersey.

How It Began

It all started in 2015 with 30-year old Samuel Bier who has Asperger’s Syndrome and a dream to travel, have fun, and work just like everyone else.

Unfortunately, Samuel was a victim of the unemployment rate of adults with differing abilities.

Unemployment Among the Disabled

Did you know 80% of adults with Autism are unemployed?

Together, Samuel and his family made a decision to support him with his dream to work just like everyone else. And Popcorn for the People was born!

Before long, they took America’s favorite snack (popcorn, in case you haven’t figured that out yet) and created popcorn with a purpose!

Soon, Popcorn For The People grew large enough and became overwhelmingly popular enough that they had to expand. They were now able to take bigger risks, grow, and hire more adults with differing abilities.

They were able to begin making a difference in the lives of people with differing abilities!

With 11 flavors to choose from and multiple packaging options – including special event packaging – Popcorn for the People employs adults with Autism and trains them to cook, package, and sell the products.

The family established this non-profit business to create meaningful employment for individuals with Autism and other differing abilities.

The company trains and employs adults with differing abilities to create, cook, package, and sell uniquely flavored gourmet popcorn.

Advocacy for Adults with Differing Abilities

Popcorn for the People has been promoted by many great organizations such as Ashton Kushner’s APLUS organization, the Philadelphia Eagles Autism Foundation, NBC New York LIVE, Rutger’s RVision, FOX5 Good Day Street Talk, and more.

Additionally, this remarkable business also partners with community organizations and awareness projects that promote the employment and advocacy of adults with differing abilities such as Autism.

They have a community outreach plan that promotes Giving Tuesday in their efforts to support neurodiverse employment workplaces and have worked with the New Jersey Governor and Autism New Jersey Organization to promote small businesses that employ adults with differing abilities.

They are making a difference!
